Membership and drop-in studio use

The Clay Collective now offers open studio time as a way for people to continue making independently in the studio! You'll have access to our whole class space with 8 pottery wheels, hand building tables, tools and use of all our glazes.

Please read the following carefully before booking!

Each booking is 2 hours and lets you reserve either a wheel or a table spot. Please choose whichever you’ll be using most for that session.

Who Can Join

Our Drop-In Open Studio is open to:

  • Current students enrolled in a class at the Clay Collective.

  • Potters who have taken at least one 6-week class and can work independently. There is a facilitator present but they are there for some guidance, have other tasks and are not there to provide instruction.

**Please contact prior to booking if you haven’t taken a class here so we can give you an orientation before registering. **

Pricing

The more sessions you book, the more you save:

  • $24 – Single booking (2 hours)

  • $115 – 5-session punch pass (valid for 6 months)

  • $205 – 10-session punch pass (valid for 12 months)

  • $150/month – Unlimited monthly membership + a full ware board for storage.

Clay for Sale

We currently offer the following Cone 6 clays for sale in the studio:

  • Plainsman M340 (Buff) – $26/bag

  • Plainsman M340S (Speckled) – $27/bag

  • Tucker’s Bright White – $36/bag

You’re welcome to bring your own Cone 6 clay, but please have it checked before so we can ensure it’s the right temperature for our kilns.

Glazing & Firing

Bisque firing is included for members and drop-ins.

Glazing is available to all members and drop-ins.

  • If you glaze at our studio, your work must be fired in our kilns.

  • Glaze mixing is time consuming, and the glazes add up in cost. If you choose to use this studio for glazing (and make elsewhere) firing fees for your wares will be slightly higher than those who produce everything here.

Firing Fees

Firing fees are added during the glaze stage to allow for flexibility in where you can make your pieces, or your types of clay. Costs are as follows:

  • Mug size or smaller – $4

  • Medium piece – $6

  • Large piece – $8

Or rent more kiln space

Ensure you have enough work for this kind of firing.

  • $16 – Full shelf (mug height or less)

  • $32 – Half load

  • $60 – Full load

Studio use responsibilities

Drop-in members are responsible for cleaning their area including their wheel, table use, tools and mopping their area of the floor.

Drop-in members are responsible for monitoring their pieces through the drying process and will be able to pop in during opening hours to ensure they are well cared for during the process!

Work Exchange

Have a fair bit of pottery experience and want to facilitate drop-ins in exchange for a membership? Get in touch!

Please reach out with any questions you have about the independent studio use!

Dropping In

Don't feel like booking online? Take a look at the schedule and literally just drop in! This can also make the hours more flexible. This does not guarantee you a spot but there's lots of room in the studio and this usually shouldn't be a problem. (except maybe around Christmas...) â€‹
